Advisory: Seasonal Heat Stress Management for OAE Programme Providers
28 March 2024
Learn about essential safety measures for OAE providers managing outdoor programmes in high-heat conditions, with specific thresholds and practical steps to keep your participants safe
The OAE Council's latest advisory addresses heat stress management for outdoor adventure education providers, establishing a 30°C WBGT threshold for implementing safety measures. This comes in response to Singapore's rising temperatures and increased risk of heat-related incidents.
Historical data shows heightened heat stress risks between March and October, particularly during 11am to 3pm in April and May. To manage these risks, providers must monitor WBGT levels, implement heat mitigation strategies, maintain emergency plans, adapt programme delivery, and ensure staff are trained to handle heat-related emergencies.
These guidelines aim to help providers balance quality outdoor experiences with participant safety in Singapore's warm climate. The advisory includes practical resources and recommendations for providers to develop heat stress management plans.
